Breakfast Meal Ideas for Toddlers

Breakfast time. You are probably up earlier than you wanted to be and that little person is HUNGRY! So having some go-to ideas for easy and healthy breakfasts? It is exactly what you need. Here are some of my favorite toddler breakfasts!

Overnight Oats

These easy oats are a staple of ready-to-eat breakfasts for hungry little tummies. You can personalize them however you would like or based on the ingredients you have available in the fridge!

  • Pint Jars (or small containers of some sort)
  • Quick Oats
  • Yogurt (I use my homemade plain yogurt)
  • Applesauce
  • Milk

I put about 1/4 cup of each into the jar and stir it up real good. Put the lid on and there you have it. Into the fridge and ready for tomorrows breakfast.

Eggs and Cheese

This one is a real tasty and EASY! What you will need?

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup cheese
  • frying pan
  • rubber spatula

I break the eggs right into the pan as it heats up and stir them right there to save on dishes. I scramble them to cook. Once they are mostly cooked I stir in the cheese. Make sure to cook the rest of the way and cool them off. The cheese helps them clump together a little making it easier for little forks to make it all the way into little mouths. Yum!

Chwaffles

Another easy version of eggs and cheese. This time you need:

  • Waffle iron
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cheese

Mix the egg and cheese together. Pour onto the waffle iron. Close it up. Let it cook. Pull out a nice crispy and protein rich little morsel of goodness!

You can top it with syrup, jelly, or whatever your little toddler loves to eat!

Pancakes

I make Egg and Milk free pancakes because…. well sometime I run out of eggs and milk and I still want pancakes. But the recipe is great so I use it even when I have dairy in the house!

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 3 TBS Sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 1/2 TBS Oil
  • 3/4 Cup Water

Mix it all up and cook like a pancake! It can get a little thick, so I end up adding more water sometimes. I like to keep it thick enough that I have to help the scoops of batter spread out a little. Makes for nice fluffy pancakes. The best part? These freeze like a charm! I usually triple the above recipe and make about 30 to freeze for the month.

Fruits and Berries

Almost every toddler goes through the berry phase. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries you name it. My little one also loves canned peaches and pears, and fresh bananas. Breakfast is our time to feast on the fruits. We love them! And they are great for getting hydrated after a long nights sleep. I mostly just cut up berries and fruits to be eaten on the side of whatever else is being served. They are also great on pancakes, in oatmeal or in smoothies!

Smoothies

I LOVE smoothies for little ones. We blend fresh fruits with 100% juice concentrate or milk for delicious drinks. Suggested ingredients are:

  • Banana for sweetness
  • Any fruit you want
  • Yogurt is good too
  • Spinach for some nutrition but not enough to taste
  • Canned fruits work great!
  • Oats to make it more filling
  • Chia seeds if you are into that (good protein)

I like these non-frozen smoothies (more the consistency of a Naked drink if you are familiar with those). Still tasty, but no brain freezes and good to drink year round.

Turkey Sausage Bites

This one is a must for the meat eaters. I literally just take a pound of ground turkey breakfast sausage, spread it out on a cookie sheet till it is about 1/4 inch thick and then bake it as 400 degrees until its cooked (about 15 mins). Then I use my kitchen scissors to cut it into bites and store it in the fridge to add as a side to the weeks breakfasts.
